About Us
DEEDS has impacted over 17,700 lives in the last two decades. We believe that ‘if you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime’. We envision moving the deaf beyond surviving to thriving on their own. All our efforts are focused on giving the deaf what they need to thrive through education and skills to ensure a sustainable livelihood. Deeds is built on one clear belief,
‘Turning Disabilities into Abilities’.
Our Vision
To create an empowered future for India’s disadvantaged, especially the girl child, with a focus on the deaf community. We aspire to increase opportunities, bridge socio-economic gaps and enable them to lead lives of equality and dignity.
Our Mission
To empower the hearing impaired through free, quality education, vocational training and skills development courses, culminating in job placements. We aim to touch the lives of 25,000 deaf by this decade.

Our Milestones
2001
BIL’s First batch.
Bajaj Institute of Learning inducted its first batch of students.
2002
Registered under ‘Charity Commissioner’
DEEDS Public Charitable was officially registered under charity commissioner in Mumbai as an umbrella organization to help the deaf in India.
2003
Audio Diagnostic Center
- Setting up of Audio Diagnostic center at Dehradun
- DEEDS organized various events and workshops to raise awareness and funds.
2004
Setting up Workshop Units & Skill Training
- Various professional skill training workshops and Indian Sign Language workshops were organized for the deaf around Mumbai.
- A watch strapping unit in Dehradun in collaboration with Titan.
2005
Placement Cell
- DEEDS started its placement cell to enable deaf youth to become a part of the workforce.
- DEEDS provided computers for over two dozen schools deaf schools
Medical Camp held in Mumbai for the Deaf - BIL declared as state resource center
2006
Basic English Literacy Course
- The Basic English Literacy Course (BELC) was introduced in a 17 Special schools for the Deaf.
- DEEDS started supporting deaf to learn computer skills through Noida Deaf Society in Delhi.
2007
DEEDS Catering Institute
DEEDS Catering institute was set-upto train deaf in culinary skills.
2008
Computer Learning Centers in Deaf Schools
- DEEDS sets up several computer learning centers in deaf schools around Mumbai.
- DEEDS sets up a Tailoring unit in a Deaf School in Mumbai.
2009
‘The Quest’ a novel quiz for deaf & Tailoring unit in Mumbai
- DEEDS set up its own DEEDS Tailoring Unit for Deaf Women.
- DEEDS specially designed a quiz competition for the deaf called ‘The Quest’ whose participants were deaf schools all around Mumbai.
- Deaf Students participated in art workshop with Baz Lurhmann, Director of ‘The Great Gatsby’ movie, and Vincent Fantauzzo, an award-winning Australian artist.
2010
Mumbai Marathon & Art Auction
- Our corporate partners participated in the Mumbai Marathon to raise awareness & funds for DEEDS.
- Photo Exhibition of Bazz Luhrmen and Vincent Funtozzo’s tour
- With DEEDS efforts, Jet Airways took deaf children from Mumbai to Pune for children’s day.
2011
Computer skills training in Noida
419 Deaf youth were trained computer skills in collaboration with Noida Deaf Society, with its knowledge partner NIIT.
2013
ISL Workshops
Sign Language Workshops were held for the employees of our various corporate partners.
2014
Relief Program in Mumbai, Kashmir & Vizag
DEEDS extended its arm to provide relief for those affected by the floods in Kashmir and cyclone in Vizag.
2015
DEEDS Computer Center
The DEEDS Computer center was launched in order to train deaf youth in Computer skills.
2016
Hostel in Dehradun & DEEDS Junior College in Mumbai
- DEEDS inaugurates its hostel in Dehradun for deaf boys across India to receive schooling from BIL.
- The DEEDS Junior College for Commerce was started in Mumbai, our first step towards higher education.
2017
Work Readiness Program & Smart Learning in Dehradun
- Introduced the Work Readiness Program to prepare deaf youth for the work environment.
- BIL enhances its education experience by introducing smart boards in its classrooms.
2019
HRH Program
- DEEDS starts professional training courses in Hospitality, Retail and Housekeeping Program to deaf youth.
- BIL sets up a sports complex for its students.
2020
Online Education during the pandemic
- DEEDS continues all its programs online via digital platforms to continue to make an impact despite the pandemic.
- DEEDS sets up its Degree College in commerce.
2021
First batch of students move to their final year
- First batch of students move to their final year of commerce in our Degree college
- DEEDS’ continues to run all its programs while sowing the seeds for more projects to make a bigger impact to the deaf community.
2023
DEEDS new Learning and Resource Centre
DEEDS new Learning and Resource Centre was inaugurated in February. The proposed new centre will have 350 – 375 students attending their Junior and Degree College and various vocational and skill development courses monthly.
