General FAQs

1. What does DEEDS stand for?

DEEDS stands for the Development, Education and Empowerment of the Disadvantaged in Society.

2. Which cities in India does DEEDS work in?

Our main office is located in Mumbai. The BIL school and hostel for deaf children is located in Dehradun. We conduct various educational and vocational courses around Mumbai as well. Click here to know more about Our Work'

3. What is the scenario for the deaf community in India?

Currently, 5% of deaf children only receive a basic education while only 1% have access to quality education. The graduation rate is low due to their inability to learn and communicate. There are extremely limited options for higher education and thus the deaf do not have the opportunity to work and earn a living.

4. What does DEEDS do to help?

DEEDS is built on one belief and that is ‘Turning Disabilities into Abilities’. We provide education, skill-training and placement support to our deaf students. We have a number of projects in Mumbai and Dehradun. Our recently launched College preparatory program, a program for higher education, has been a runaway success with almost 300 students! We are also looking to add an office management course that teaches advanced computer skills (ACS). Click here to know more about 'Our Work'
